Snowshoe, West Virginia’s big mountain resort, offers some of the best big mountainskiing in Eastern America. With over 220 acres spread over 57 slopes and trails, Snowshoe features skiing for the expert, intermediate and novice skier, as well as snow tubing and terrain parks. The professionally staffed ski school provides quality instruction for all levels of ability including a children’s program. Snowshoe offers 14 quad lifts including 3 high speed quad lifts and 7 triple lifts, increased snowmaking capabilities, and night skiing.

Snowshoe is located in West Virginia on U.S. 219 just 42 miles south of Elkins and 65 miles north of Lewisburg. The Elkins airport is located 60 minutes away and offers limited daily commuter flights to and from Pittsburgh. The airport in Lewisburg, W.Va. is 90 minutes away and offers flights daily from Charlotte, Pittsburgh and Washington.

Program Overview and Description

This will be the 35th midwinter cardiovascular conference held at Snowshoe and will be co-sponsored by CAMC Health Education and Research Institute and Duke University Division of Cardiology. The conference is designed to assist the physician caring for adult patients with complex cardiac problems and traditionally as dealt with the various difficult management problems that occur in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Evening “Meet the Experts” sessions will provide opportunities for informal discussions among attendees and speakers. In response to evaluation requests, more opportunities for case reports and discussion have been included. An audience response system is utilized with this program and has been received with much enthusiasm by previous course participants. This program is designed for cardiologists, internists, family practitioners, hospitalists, and emergency medicine practitioners, as well as nurse practioners and physician assistants. The course is limited to 120 participants.

Hotel reservations must be made by Dec. 16, 2015. Group rates apply for three days pre- and three days post-conference (subject to availability). Minimum of two night stay is required to receive group discounted rates. We encourage participation by all individuals.

The conference is approved for a total of 10.5 contact hours for Physicians and Nurses.

• List management strategies for common cardiac emergencies
• Evaluate recent results of percutaneous valve repair/replacement
• Demonstrate knowledge of pre-operative and post-operative procedures of the cardiac patient
• Appreciate issues in lipid management
• Cite common congenital heart disease interventions
• Express complex areas in management of valvular disease
• Debate anticoagulation management options for atrial fibrillation
• Review in detail, rate, rhythm and implantable device options for atrial
fibrillation
• Detail inpatient and outpatient management issues in heart failure
• Report diagnosis and management of cardiac infections
